Your resume is the first thing that the recruiter sees about you and is your ticket for the interview or an entry level job finally. Hence, as a fresher, you don’t want anything to jeopardize your chances of being called for an interview whereby you can sell your skills.
Therefore, you need to build your entry level resume with great care. You need to have a certain approved structure and flow to it. The bare outline of the resume should be such that it lets the employer know the relevant information that they are looking for immediately.
Remember that a resume is an extremely important document and once created will serve you for ages. The first thing that you must decide upon is the format that you are going to follow based on your education and experience, that is chronological or functional.
Sample Resume Structure
Let us look at a sample resume structure:
Introductory phase:
- The Heading: This will have your name, address, telephone number and email address. These are your contact details whereby the employer can easily get in touch with you. Keep in mind to provide optional telephone numbers and email addresses.
- The Job Objective: This is the line that will inform the employer about the objective of the resume and what kind of role you are searching for. This will be extremely brief and to the point. For instance: An entry level teaching job with a medium to large International school.
Resume Body:
The Body of a fresher’s resume or any other resume is the longest and most detailed section of the resume. This is where you give the details about your educational qualifications, work related experience and any additional information that will help you in securing the job. The sub-sections that the body will have are:
- Educational qualifications: You must enlist the schools and colleges attended as a graduate, the degrees got and the year of passing. If you have any specific information such as medals won, honors received then they should be highlighted out here. This should be listed from the latest to the earliest. Add on all the relevant courses that you completed and how they are going to help the employer turn more productive and profitable.
- Employment History: In this section you need to enlist your employment history as in the company’s that you have worked for and with what designation. Also, mention the job profile, projects handled and the response or the outcome. This is important as employers will be interested in knowing of what skills you can get that are immediately transferable in their organization. In a chronological resume the employment history comes before the educational qualifications and is the most important bit of information that the employer will be looking for.
- Achievements and Special skills: Here you can mention the skills that will enable you to become productive and a star employee. If you have done any volunteer work as a graduating fresher or showcased your leadership qualities, you can mention them out here.
- References: Here you can mention that you will furnish references upon request.
After you have done all of this proof read your resume and see that the font, grammar and spellings are correct.
